Call us crazy

Crazy cousins, that is! My cousin (who is also my BFF) came up to visit us today with her kiddos for a day packed full of fun. We had a great plan really. They would get here and we would walk to our neighborhood swimming pool. We would let the kids splash around in the pool. We'd give them even more reasons to love us (because we're so fun, of course). We would then mozy back to my house where we'd eat lunch. Then, of course, it would be naptime and the adults would get some much needed quiet time.

Huh.

Here's what happened...
Kasey went to take her baby girl out of the carseat to put her in the jogger stroller and a RIVER OF NEWBORN POO dripped and then poured out onto the floor and mostly Kasey. Kasey got baby girl cleaned up and put her in the jogger stoller. The boys got in the bike stroller and away we went. Of course, before the "away we went" part, it started to sprinkle. Smart ol' me was a bit prepared for rain. You know, just in case. Both strollers have waterproof covers and I brought an umbrella. We start the walk to the pool. It starts to sprinkle. (Kasey says it was a bit more than a sprinkle.) We make it to the pool and under a tree, you know... just in case it rains. And lo and behold, it begins to rain buckets. And then it begins to hail. Lucky us, we are under a tree. We move baby girl (still in the stroller) under the pavillion. We get everything situated. Then I take the boys into the pool. We can handle a bit of rain. The rain stops. Kasey joins us in the pool. It sprinkles and rains on and off. We have a great time in the pool. We perform the raisin test. That's how I determine when it's time to get out of the pool. Once the kiddos feet are all nice and crinkly, it's time to get out! Both boys had raisin feet so we get out of the pool. It feels very chilly when we were getting out of the nicely heated pool. We're shivering and the boys look like popsicles by the time we get them dried off. Luckily, we brought some nice dry clothes for them to wear.

A year (or maybe just 10 minutes) later, we get everything packed back up and the kids into the strollers. Off we go back to my house. We are not so lucky on the way back as we were on the way to the pool. It starts raining almost immediately. I am carrying the umbrella like a darn fool. It's almost impossible to push a wide bicycle stroller full of 60 lbs. or so with just one hand. Kasey says she is already soaked so what's the difference? (I did offer her the umbrella!) For those of you who've never been here, the roads back to my house are a bit... vertically challenging. Not terrible... but in the rain pushing a stroller they are especially not fun. Oh, and Kasey wore flip flops. Yes, flip flops (or flop flops as her son calls them)... wet flip flops on a hike like journey. So we are walking and I'm wishing I had used the restroom, because Kasey is saying some of the funniest stuff I've ever heard and I'm literally about to pee my pants. No one would notice, though, as it is raining cats and dogs. Kasey was begging me to flag down each and every car that passes so she can get a ride to my house. And she also informed me that it was NOT a little incline back up to my house. I begged Kasey to warn me if she saw lightning coming toward my open umbrella. We finally huffed and puffed our way back to my house. I'm pretty sure Kasey said we were crazy, called the walk home the Death Walk and wondered what we were thinking when we embarked on the journey.

We made it in one piece... good memories.

Just wanted to throw this one in there for fun. Isn't she a cutie!

maybe it didn't go quite according to the original plan BUT sounds like a lot of good laughs was had by all!
